Youth Plus MembershipWe are pleased that you are showing an interest in Youth Plus. You must be between the ages of 14 and 25 years and a member to join in. Youth Plus is different from a Youth Club, as it is run as a voluntary group by the parents of its members. Its purpose is to help vulnerable young people with disabilities to make friends and to take part in social activities. Young people, who do not have disabilities, can also enjoy the activities of Youth Plus.
Members are: Young people with disabilities who’s parents, help to facilitate Youth Plus, and young people without disabilities who 'mix in' and agree to contribute positively. There is an ongoing calendar of activities throughout the year which is suggested and organised by members for members. These include weekends on Narrow Boats, Camping and Youth Hostelling trips, Shows, Skating, Cinema, and Video Nights etc. You name it, and we do it!
Parents contribute to the running of running of Youth Plus in many ways. For example, they might like to help occasionally on a Thursday evening or to help to organise an activity for the group. They might like to help with some paperwork or to serve occasionally at our coffee bar. There are many ways to contribute to Youth Plus. Some young people have paid workers to support them weekly at the group and on activities. We welcome this, but they cannot take the place of the parent in the requirement for help to run the group.
Great isn't it! For very little effort by lots of people, the members of Youth Plus have an opportunity to meet regularly with each other, and always have plenty to do. There are also volunteering opportunities at Youth Plus. There is training and accreditation for young people both with and without disabilities - good for a C.V.!
